Bye Bye Flores

We are slowly making our way through the wonderful archipelago of the Azores. After Flores, we headed roughly 130 miles east to Horta on the island of Faial – our original destination for making landfall. After 18 days at sea, it was a breeze of an overnight sail. At 18 hours, just about a third of it was spent sleeping. I had the 6AM shift and was surprised as we rounded the southern edge of the island to see what looked like a mirage a mountain looming in the distance. Turns out that this was the island of Pico whose peak rises 7000 plus feet from the sea.
I leave you with some photos of the lovely-unspoiled by tourism-very hospitable-true to its name, island of Flores.

  1. My gosh, what a spectacular place! Thanks so much for sharing these photos–and your blogs. It allows all of us office-bound types to sail away with you. Be safe, well, and have a great time! Jim

    Hey
I have been keeping track of your amazing travels mostly through Monte. The crossing sounded wild……….what an experience and you survived it. The recent pics are amazing and the dolphins….so jealous.
So glad you are having a brilliant time. The blogs are great.

Wow! Great pictures. Can’t wait to see more. Did you adopt a dog? :) Hope you’re enjoying this next leg, and look forward to hearing more about it.

We finally have pretty steady land legs and are on our last two weeks in Michigan. Then back to work in Annapolis.

    Sail on, Rosario!
